NAF, U.S Deepen Security Partnership Against Terrorism, Insurgency
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and the United States have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening strategic security cooperation aimed at combating terrorism and insurgency in Nigeria and the wider region.
This was highlighted on Wednesday when the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, received the leader of the Defence Security Cooperation University (DSCU) Nigeria Programme, Major General Miguel Castellanos, and his delegation during an official visit to the Headquarters of the Nigerian Air Force in Abuja.
The meeting reviewed ongoing collaborative efforts between the Nigerian Air Force and the United States in areas designed to improve operational effectiveness, institutional capacity and national security, particularly in support of ongoing counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations.
Discussions during the engagement focused on institutional capacity-building projects and future areas of cooperation, including Air-Ground Integration, Joint Tactical Air Control and Civilian Harm Mitigation initiatives.

Military authorities said the partnership is expected to enhance operational coordination, improve mission effectiveness and strengthen civilian protection measures during military operations.
Speaking during the meeting, Air Marshal Aneke described the Nigeria–United States defence relationship as a valuable strategic partnership that continues to reinforce the operational capabilities and institutional development of the Nigerian Air Force in addressing contemporary security threats.
He noted that sustained bilateral cooperation remained essential to promoting peace, stability and socio-economic development across the country.
In his remarks, Major General Castellanos reaffirmed the commitment of the United States to supporting Nigeria’s security and defence capacity-building efforts.
He commended the Nigerian Air Force for its professionalism and operational effectiveness in ongoing military campaigns, particularly its commitment to civilian harm mitigation measures in operational theatres.
According to him, the partnership reflects a shared commitment by both countries toward promoting regional stability, enhancing operational effectiveness and advancing professional military cooperation.
The meeting further underscored the enduring bilateral relationship between Nigeria and the United States, as both nations pledged to deepen security collaboration in tackling terrorism and insurgency.
