Eid-Kabir: OPHK Issues Security Advisory, Assures Residents of Adequate Safety
The Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), has assured residents across the North-East of adequate security arrangements ahead of the 2026 Eid El Kabir celebrations, while warning of possible isolated attacks by remnants of Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists during the festive period.
In a security advisory issued on Monday, OPHK said comprehensive measures had already been activated across the theatre of operations to guarantee peaceful celebrations for Muslim faithful marking Eid El Kabir 1447AH on Wednesday, May 28, 2026.
The military disclosed that credible intelligence indicated that remnants of Boko Haram Terrorists (BHT) and ISWAP elements might attempt to exploit the festivities by targeting civilians with suicide bombers and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), especially in densely populated areas.
However, the command assured residents that troops had anticipated such threats and taken proactive measures to prevent any breach of security.
According to the statement signed by the Media Information Officer of OPHK, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, troops have been forward-deployed to vulnerable and strategic locations across all sectors in the North-East, while surveillance and Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) assets have been fully activated.

The command added that patrols had also been intensified, with security forces working in close collaboration with sister agencies, the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), and community vigilance groups.
“Operation HADIN KAI reassures all residents of the North East that troops are on standby, fully prepared, and firmly in control,” the statement said.
As part of precautionary measures, residents were advised to observe Eid prayers and celebrations close to their homes and avoid large gatherings where possible.
The military also urged members of the public to remain vigilant in crowded places such as markets, motor parks, prayer grounds and banking halls, and to promptly report suspicious persons, objects or movements to security agencies.
Residents were further encouraged to cooperate with security personnel during patrols and screening operations, avoid unnecessary movement at night, and refrain from spreading unverified information capable of causing panic.
The command appealed to traditional rulers, religious leaders, media organisations and other community stakeholders to sensitise their communities and support security agencies with credible information before and during the celebrations.
OPHK reiterated its commitment to sustaining ongoing counter-terrorism operations and ensuring that the Eid El Kabir celebrations are conducted in an atmosphere of peace, safety and dignity across the region.
The command also extended Eid greetings to Muslim faithful and wished residents of the North-East a peaceful and rewarding celebration.
