NDLEA Intercepts Hard Drugs Hidden in Water Purifiers from Europe, Seizes 380 Rounds of Ammunition in Kaduna
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted consignments of illicit drugs concealed in water purifier machines imported from the Netherlands, while also uncovering large quantities of narcotics and military-grade ammunition in separate operations across the country.
The agency said the drug consignments, comprising three kilograms of ketamine and 199 grams of MDMA, commonly known as Ecstasy, were discovered hidden inside water purifier machines shipped from Europe to Lagos.
According to the NDLEA, the drugs were recovered during an operation at a courier company in Lagos on May 26, 2026.
In a related development, operatives of the agency in Kaduna State arrested a couple, Musa Sunday and Mercy Sunday, alongside another suspect, Salomi Ezekiel, 38, following the seizure of 100 jumbo bags of skunk weighing 1,246 kilograms.
The suspects were apprehended after NDLEA officers raided their residence in the Gonin Gora area of Kaduna on May 24.
On the same day, NDLEA operatives on patrol along the Abuja-Kaduna Highway near Jere intercepted a 30-year-old suspect, Sunusi Musa, who was allegedly transporting 380 rounds of military-grade 7.62mm ammunition to Katsina State.
The agency disclosed that both the suspect and the ammunition had been handed over to the appropriate security agency for further investigation and necessary action.
In Niger State, acting on intelligence reports, NDLEA operatives raided a warehouse in Gidan Kukah, Bosso Local Government Area, where they recovered 457 kilograms of skunk on May 27.

The agency said a suspect, Godwin Zakka, 46, was subsequently arrested at his residence in the Gbeganu area of Minna in connection with the seizure.
Similarly, in Enugu State, NDLEA officers on patrol along the Onitsha-Enugu Expressway intercepted a commercial vehicle travelling to Taraba State on May 28.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 22,000 tramadol pills, 100 ampoules of pentazocine and 200 grams of bromazepam. The agency arrested a suspect, James Maigari Wisdom, in connection with the seizure.
Beyond enforcement operations, the NDLEA said its commands and formations nationwide sustained their War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation campaign through awareness programmes in schools, places of worship, workplaces and communities.
The agency listed some of the institutions that benefited from the awareness campaign to include Government Secondary School, Adiabo, Cross River State; St. Patrick’s Memorial College, Wukari, Taraba State; Roman Catholic Mission Nursery and Primary School, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State; and Kings Secondary School, Amawbia, Anambra State.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended officers and men of the Kaduna, Niger and Enugu State Commands, as well as the Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI), for the arrests and seizures.
Marwa also praised their efforts in balancing drug supply reduction operations with public enlightenment campaigns, urging personnel across the country to sustain the momentum in the fight against drug trafficking and abuse.
The agency reiterated its commitment to intensifying enforcement and preventive measures aimed at curbing illicit drug trafficking and safeguarding communities nationwide.
