Nigeria Police Deepens AI Push to Modernise Law Enforcement
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance law enforcement operations, following the successful conclusion of the Second AI-POL Leadership Dialogue Workshop on Advancing Innovation, Governance and the Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence in Law Enforcement.
The workshop, which ended on Wednesday in Abuja, brought together senior law enforcement officials, technology experts and international partners to deliberate on the growing role of artificial intelligence in modern policing and security management.
Participants engaged in extensive discussions on practical applications of AI in law enforcement, emerging technological challenges, and global best practices for integrating innovative solutions into policing frameworks. The dialogue also provided an opportunity to examine strategies for ensuring responsible governance and ethical deployment of AI technologies within security institutions.
Speaking at the event, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, emphasized the significance of the discussions, noting that artificial intelligence is already transforming security operations across the world.

According to the IGP, the workshop reinforced the urgent need for the Nigeria Police Force to proactively embrace technological advancements in order to improve operational efficiency and service delivery.
He expressed appreciation to all participants, facilitators, experts and development partners whose contributions ensured the success of the workshop, while reaffirming the Force’s commitment to strengthening partnerships aimed at advancing innovation in policing.
A major highlight of the event was a presentation on the outcomes of the Fifth Global Meeting for AI and Law Enforcement, which recognized Nigeria as a priority partner under the African AI Policing Pilot initiative.
The development is expected to position the country among key stakeholders driving the adoption of artificial intelligence in law enforcement across Africa.
Participants were encouraged to translate the knowledge and insights gained during the workshop into practical actions within their various commands, with a view to enhancing policing effectiveness and public safety.
The Nigeria Police Force also expressed gratitude to stakeholders and partners whose support contributed to the success of the initiative, stressing that continued collaboration remains critical to building safer communities and a more accountable police service.
The workshop forms part of ongoing efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to modernize its operations and align with global trends in technology-driven policing.
