Troops Arrest ISWAP Informant, 2 Kidnappers, Recover AK-47 Rifle in Borno
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have recorded two separate intelligence-led successes in Borno State, including the arrest of a suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) informant in Monguno and two suspected kidnappers in Gubio Local Government Area, with the recovery of an AK-47 rifle.
Security sources disclosed that the ISWAP-linked informant, identified as Modu Fanni, was arrested on June 21 at Kuya Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Monguno town by operatives of the Sector 3 Military Intelligence Brigade in collaboration with troops of Headquarters Sector 3 OPHK.

The suspect was reportedly trailed and apprehended following actionable intelligence obtained from another suspect currently undergoing interrogation at the Joint Intelligence Fusion Centre (JIFC). Following the arrest, troops conducted a cordon-and-search operation at the suspect’s residence as part of ongoing investigations. Details of the operation were still being compiled at the time of reporting.
In a separate operation the same day, troops of OPHK arrested two suspected kidnappers in Gubio Local Government Area following credible intelligence on kidnapping activities in the area.
The operation involved personnel of the 5 Brigade, who provided route clearance and support to hybrid forces deployed to track and apprehend the suspects. During the operation, troops recovered one AK-47 rifle and a magazine.
The suspects are currently in custody and undergoing interrogation.
Military authorities said both operations reflect ongoing intelligence-driven efforts to dismantle terrorist informant networks, disrupt kidnapping syndicates, and enhance security across Borno State and the wider North-East theatre.
They added that the general security situation remains calm but unpredictable, with troops maintaining heightened alertness, operational readiness, and sustained pressure on criminal elements.
