FG strengthens relationship with UNESCO on Lake Chad Basin for economic development.

The Federal Ministry of Science and Technology is to strengthen its   partnership with United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on Lake Chad Basin for the economic development of three countries within the area.

The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu said this when the Deputy Director-General of UNESCO Mr. Geyachen Engida with other senior officials of UNESCO paid a courtesy call on him in Abuja on 27th February, 2018.

The Minister said that the partnership will bring life back to Lake Chad Basin for sustainable environment, agricultural production and reduce the level of criminality in the area.

He appreciate the contribution of UNESCO to humanity in the world adding that Nigeria will continue to appreciate the expertise of UNESCO to increase production in the country, fight poverty and create jobs.

The Minister disclosed that Science and Technology Innovation Policy will be revised soon to facilitate the process of moving the country from resources based to knowledge based innovation driven economy.

Earlier, the Regional Director, UNESCO, Mr.Geyachew Engida said that UNESCO will continue to support the various transformation in Nigeria by providing necessary expertise and competence.

In her remark, the Assistant Director-General Science, Ms Flavia Schelegel said that UNESCO will continue to diversify science and technology innovation to enhance the skills of young Nigerian Scientists on sustainable basis.
