Arrangements have been concluded by the Federal Ministry of Water Resources to join the rest of the World in celebrating this year World Water Day in Nigeria.
It should be recalled that in 1992, United Nations General Assembly dedicated 22 March, every year as World Water Day.
As we all know, 22nd March, 2015 is Sunday and a public holiday in Nigeria. The Ministry has therefore decided to mark the event on Monday 23rd March, 2015.
The Theme of this year’s celebration is “Water and Sustainable Development”. This underscores the importance of fresh water in sustainable socio-economic development of the world.
The purpose of the celebration is to raise public awareness on conscious management of fresh water for sustainable development.
Programme of events for the celebration includes: sensitization walk on Monday 23rd March, 2015. The Walk will start from Old Parade Ground, Area 10, Garki and terminates at Vines Hotel Durumi District, Abuja. Thereafter, a symposium and exhibition will take place on the same date and at the same venue.
All stakeholders in the Water sector are expected to participate in the event.
