Court Clears Kenneth Aniebo of Passport Racketeering Charges
The Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed all charges against Mr. Kenneth Aniebo, who was accused of passport racketeering by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).
In 2019, the NIS had arraigned Mr. Aniebo on a three-count charge of conspiracy, submission of false information, and forgery, alleging that he specialized in forging documents to procure official passports for individuals not entitled to them.

However, in a ruling by Hon. Justice Binta Nyako, the court found Mr. Aniebo not guilty of all charges, citing a lack of evidence and inconsistencies in the prosecution’s case. The court document revealed that the prosecution failed to provide sufficient proof to support the allegations, and the defendant’s legal team successfully argued that the charges were baseless.
Justice Nyako declared in the ruling, “From the totality of evidence placed before the court, I find that the prosecution has not placed before me enough to create a prima facie case that would warrant me asking the defendant to enter a defense. Consequent upon this finding, I hold that the no case succeeds, and the defendant is hereby discharged.”
