FERMA Commences ‘Operation Free Our Roads’ Nationwide

In a major effort to improve the country’s road infrastructure, the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) has launched the ‘Operation Free Our Roads’ initiative nationwide.

According to a statement by FERMA spokesperson, Maryam M. Sanusi, the move is in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current administration.

Engr. Chukwuemeka Agbasi PhD, the Managing Director/CEO of FERMA disclosed at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.

Engr. Agbasi revealed that under the current administration, FERMA has completed 286 capital, recurrent, and direct labor works across the six geopolitical zones of the country. This has resulted in the creation of approximately 22,800 direct and indirect jobs, improving the quality of life for the benefiting youths along the affected road corridors and communities.

“There may be hardship, but there is light at the end of the tunnel,” Agbasi said. “We see a lot of hope and positive indices. Therefore, let us support the President to make our country great again.”

The “Operation Free Our Roads” is a joint initiative between the Federal Ministry of Works and FERMA, aimed at fixing the roads, especially during the rainy season, to put the citizens first.

Agbasi stated that the projects executed under the different intervention of the agency’s program include the patching of potholes, pavement strengthening, repairs of failed sections, limited rehabilitation, bridge/culvert construction, and general maintenance.

Some of the key projects carried out by FERMA across the six geopolitical zones between August 2023 and the present include road rehabilitation, maintenance, and construction of bridges and culverts in various states.

The agency’s commitment to transparency and accountability in all its operations was also emphasized, with a promise to continue updating the public on the progress, aspirations, and challenges faced.
