Ebonyi Chief Judge Releases 41 Prison Inmates
The Chief Judge of of Ebonyi State, Hon. Justice Alloy Nwankwo CON,FCI, Arb, has released a total of 41 inmates from Afikpo and Abakaliki prisons in Ebonyi State Command on the 19th and 20th July 2018 consecutively. While 24 of the inmates were discharged, 17 others were granted bail.
Among those discharged were three Juveniles.
The goal delivery witnessed the release of awaiting trial inmates, who due to lack of diligent prosecution processes had been in custody for a longer period. Some have even stayed beyond what could have been their maximum sentence if they were convicted of the charge against them.
Others who benefited from the exercise were 3 Juveniles and those with lesser offences.

Present at the goal delivery were stakeholders in the criminal justice System, including the host, controller of the Nigerian Prisons Service Ebonyi State command, Emelia Adobi Oputa, officers and men of the command, etc.
The Chief Judge while concluding the exercise appreciated the Stakeholders in general and the Controller of Prisons Ebonyi State Command in particular for their tireless support and efforts towards ensuring a successful exercise. The Chief Judge promised to revisit for same purpose of Prisons decongestion before December 2018 ends.
The Controller of Prisons Ebonyi state Command Emelia Adobi Oputa in her response thanked the Chief Judge for keeping to his promise. She also admonished the released inmates to be of good behavior and law abiding, so that they will not return to the prison as recidivists.
