JAMB Suspends Law Programme in KWASU, Police Academy, and Six Other Universities

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has suspended the Law degree programme in eight universities across Nigeria for the 2025/2026 academic session.

In a statement released by JAMB’s spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the board announced that it would not process admissions into the Law programme in the affected institutions following the suspension of the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programme by the Council of Legal Education (CLE).

The affected universities include:

Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, Ilorin, Kwara State

Bingham University, Karu, Nasarawa State

Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun State

Western Delta University, Oghara, Delta State

Taraba State University, Jalingo, Taraba State

Arthur Jarvis University, Akpabuyo, Cross River State

Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State

Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State

The statement further noted that the suspension of the Law programme at the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano, will extend for two academic sessions—2025/2026 and 2026/2027.

“As a result, JAMB will not approve any admissions for candidates seeking to enroll in the Law programme at the aforementioned universities for the 2025/2026 academic session. Furthermore, the ban on registration for the Law programme at the Nigeria Police Academy will extend into the 2026/2027 academic session,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, JAMB has successfully concluded a series of crucial stakeholder meetings held on Monday, January 27, and Tuesday, January 28, 2025, aimed at finalizing preparations for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration.

The meetings sought to ensure a seamless and efficient process for millions of candidates across Nigeria.

On January 27, JAMB met with the Commissioners of Education from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to foster collaboration and gather insights on the upcoming examination cycle. These commissioners, historically key stakeholders in the UTME process, provided feedback and analysis to enhance the efficiency of the examination.

On January 28, JAMB engaged with its Chief External Examiners (CEEs), Chief Technical Advisors, and proprietors of Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres. This session was particularly critical as it focused on stakeholders directly responsible for the registration and examination processes.

Proprietors of CBT centres, who provide the essential infrastructure for conducting the UTME, were assured of JAMB’s commitment to ensuring a seamless examination experience. They confirmed their readiness to provide reliable and efficient platforms for the registration and conduct of the exams.

The meetings reinforced the importance of collaboration between JAMB and its stakeholders, ensuring that all parties are aligned in delivering a successful UTME. JAMB outlined measures to streamline the registration process, making it more user-friendly and accessible for candidates.

With these stakeholder meetings concluded, candidates preparing for the 2025 UTME can expect a well-organized registration process. JAMB has urged candidates to adhere strictly to registration deadlines and ensure that all required documents are in place beforehand.

The board also reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the integrity and credibility of the UTME, assuring candidates and stakeholders of a transparent and fair examination process.
