Nigerian Army Kicks Off 2025 Promotion Exams for 208 Lieutenant-to-Captain Candidates

The Commander of the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) of the Nigerian Army, Major General Kevin Aligbe, has charged candidates for the 2025 Lieutenant to Captain Practical Promotion Examination (LCPPE) to remain focused and committed to the process as it marks a crucial step in their military career.

PRNigeria gathered that about about 208 candidates are billed for the promotional examination.

Addressing the candidates, at the Major General Joseph Nanven Garba Hall, Postgraduate School of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna, Major General Aligbe, who also serves as the Examination President, congratulated the officers for reaching this milestone. He emphasized that their performance in the examination would lay a solid foundation for their future progression in the Nigerian Army.

A, statement by TRADOC’s spokesperson, Lt Colonel Sani UBA said the Commander reaffirmed the Army’s zero tolerance for examination malpractice and urged the candidates to approach the process with discipline, courage, and professionalism. He stressed that these core values define the Nigerian Army and will shape their career trajectory.

“The 2025 LCPPE is designed to achieve several objectives, including improving candidates’ knowledge of military profession, assisting the Army in career planning, assessing physical fitness, stimulating a healthy competitive spirit, and evaluating command abilities,” Major General Aligbe stated.

He assured the candidates that the examination panelists are committed to conducting a meticulous assessment to ensure an accurate and fair evaluation of their performance.

In his welcome address, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Mayirenso Saraso, urged the candidates to give their best effort while maintaining discipline and decorum throughout the process. He underscored the significance of the examination in determining their career progression and advised them to take the opportunity seriously.

Major General Saraso also expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, for granting the 1 Division the privilege to host the examination. He further thanked Major General Aligbe for recommending the Division as the host among several qualified formations of the Nigerian Army.

Additionally, the GOC advised both candidates and panelists to remain security-conscious while in Kaduna.

The event was attended by senior military officers, including the Deputy Chief of Training (Courses and Examination) at the Army Headquarters, Major General Ayoola Aboaba; the Chief of Training at TRADOC, Major General Peter Okoye; representatives from Army Headquarters; officials from the Nigerian Army Heritage Centre; principal staff officers from Headquarters 1 Division; members of the TRADOC LCPPE 2025 team; examination panelists; and directing staff.

The LCPPE serves as a key assessment for officers aspiring to progress from the rank of lieutenant to captain, ensuring that they possess the necessary knowledge, leadership skills, and physical readiness required for higher responsibilities in the Nigerian Army.
