‘Baseless Fabrication’ – Presidency Dismisses Rumours of VP Shettima Being Barred from Aso Villa

The Presidency has debunked recent media reports suggesting that Vice President Kashim Shettima, GCON, was denied access to the Presidential Villa, describing the claim as false, mischievous, and a desperate ploy to incite disaffection within the top hierarchy of the Nigerian government.

In a statement issued on Saturday, April 19, 2025, by Stanley Nkwocha, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), the report was described as “a feeble attempt to traduce the person and office” of Vice President Shettima.

“The recent publication by some obscure blogs alleging that armed military units have barricaded the Vice President from accessing the Presidential Villa is not only the wildest expression of wishful thinking but a clear indication that the purveyors of these tales have exhausted both ink and imagination,” the statement read.

The Presidency maintained that nothing of such ever happened, asserting that those behind the false narrative are bent on creating the illusion of a rift between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his deputy.

“These mischievous and totally fabricated reports are all in a bid to cause confusion and insinuate a clash in the Presidency. These reports seek to mislead the public into believing there’s discord at the highest levels of government,” it added.

Nkwocha emphasized that the bond between President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima remains strong and focused on delivering good governance to Nigerians. He further noted that the Vice President is committed to his constitutional duties and will not be distracted by “fairy tales” manufactured to stoke division and distrust.

He also recalled that earlier in the week, the Presidency had dismissed similar falsehoods, including claims about the circulation of campaign posters featuring the President, aimed at sowing unnecessary political tension.

The statement concluded by urging Nigerians and the media to disregard the misleading reports and to seek information only from credible sources.

“We commend Nigerians who continue to fight against the spread of fake news. No amount of falsehood or manufactured tension can shake the foundation of this democratic mandate. Not under the watch of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the statement affirmed.
