Army Moves to Boost Security in Kogi with New Forward Operating Base

In a decisive step to bolster security in Kogi State’s western axis, the Nigerian Army has begun groundwork for the establishment of a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Iluke Bunu, Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area.

The move is part of renewed efforts to intensify the military’s counter-insurgency operations and secure communities vulnerable to criminal activities across the state.

Brigadier General K. Sidi, Commander of the 12 Brigade, led a high-powered team on an inspection of the proposed base site on Thursday. The tour, which included top military officers and the Kogi State Security Adviser, Commander Duro Jerry Omodara (Rtd), was warmly received by traditional rulers, including Oba L.F. Ayinmiro, high chiefs, and enthusiastic youths of the community.

General Sidi described Iluke’s location as “strategic and central,” noting that it offers operational access to Kabba/Bunu, Ijumu, Mopa-Muro, and parts of Lokoja LGA. He stressed that the new base would “significantly boost rapid military response to threats and reassure residents of their safety.”

He added that the initiative reflects the Nigerian Army’s commitment to restoring peace and maintaining a visible presence in previously underserved areas.

Traditional leaders and community members expressed appreciation for the project, pledging full support to ensure its success.

Kogi State’s Security Adviser, Commander Omodara, reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to working closely with the Army and other security agencies to secure lives and property in every corner of the state.

Meanwhile, federal lawmaker representing Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu constituency, Hon. Salman Idris, has initiated the redesign of existing structures on the site to meet modern military standards, signaling readiness for the immediate commencement of the FOB project.
