Police Condemns Attack on IRT Operatives in Edo
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has strongly condemned an unprovoked attack on its operatives from the Force Intelligence Department’s Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) in Okhuimwun Community, Ovia North-East Local Government Area of Edo State.
According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, May 20, when the operatives were transiting through Edo State from Lagos. A mob reportedly blocked the road near the University of Benin (UNIBEN) axis and violently assaulted the officers with stones, sticks, and other dangerous objects.
Two officers sustained serious injuries in the attack. However, the statement noted that the police personnel demonstrated remarkable restraint by not retaliating with force despite the life-threatening situation.
“The injured officers are currently receiving medical attention and are in stable condition,” Adejobi confirmed.
