Legendary Business Mogul Aminu Dantata Laid to Rest in Madinah Cemetery

Renowned Nigerian businessman and philanthropist, Alhaji Aminu Dantata, who passed away on Saturday in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, was laid to rest on Tuesday at the historic Al-Baqi Cemetery in Madinah, Saudi Arabia.

His funeral rites were conducted after the Maghrib prayer at the Prophet’s Mosque in the holy city, in accordance with Islamic tradition. The late patriarch’s body arrived in Madinah earlier on Tuesday, accompanied by his son, Alhaji Tajudeen Dantata; his nephew and Africa’s richest man, Alhaji Aliko Dangote; and other close family members.

A high-powered Federal Government delegation was present at the funeral. According to a statement by Rabiu Ibrahim, Special Assistant on Media to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, the delegation departed Nigeria on Sunday and arrived in Madinah on Monday morning.

Prominent Islamic scholars present included Dr. Bashir Aliyu Umar, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, and the Imam of the Dantata Mosque in Abuja, Khalifa Abdullahi Muhammad.

The Nigerian Consulate General in Jeddah was also represented at the burial. Ambassador Ibrahim Moddibbo led the officials, alongside Ambassador Muazzam Nayaya and Nigeria’s Defence Attaché in Saudi Arabia, Major General Adamu Hassan, who coordinated funeral arrangements.

Other notable attendees included the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin; former APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje; Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf; and Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi.

Aliko Dangote led family members and close associates in paying their final respects to the late industrialist. The burial was also attended by the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, and his predecessor, Emir Aminu Ado Bayero.
