JAMB, Stakeholders Approve 150 as Minimum Score for Varsity Entry, 100 for Polytechnics, Colleges
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), in collaboration with heads of tertiary institutions and other key stakeholders, has approved the minimum cut-off marks for admissions into Nigerian higher institutions for the 2024/2025 academic session.
At the 2025 JAMB policy meeting held on Tuesday in Abuja, stakeholders resolved that the minimum cut-off mark for universities will be 150, while polytechnics and colleges of education will admit candidates with scores from 100 and above. For colleges of nursing sciences, the minimum benchmark was pegged at 140.
The meeting was presided over by the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, and attended by Vice-Chancellors, Rectors, Provosts, and heads of relevant regulatory agencies.

Speaking at the meeting, JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, emphasized that the scores represent the minimum acceptable thresholds, and institutions are not permitted to go below them.
“These policy decisions reflect the realities of our education system and are designed to promote merit, equity, and institutional capacity,” he stated.
While the cut-off marks serve as national minimum standards, Oloyede clarified that individual institutions reserve the right to set higher criteria for specific programmes, depending on competitiveness and capacity.
The meeting also reaffirmed the importance of institutional autonomy in the admission process, provided that such autonomy operates within a framework that promotes national standards and fairness.
All tertiary institutions are expected to conclude their admissions within the approved timelines and submit their lists to JAMB for central processing.
“The stakeholders have agreed: universities will admit candidates from 150 and above, polytechnics and colleges of education from 100, and colleges of nursing sciences from 140,” JAMB stated.
