Police Arraign Notorious Lagos Assassin, Wasiu Akinwande on 11-Count Murder Charge

The Lagos State Police Command has arraigned a suspected hired assassin, Wasiu Akinwande—popularly known as “Olori Eso”—before the Ogba Magistrate Court on an 11-count charge, including murder, unlawful possession of arms, and felony.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the development in a statement, describing Akinwande as “Lagos’ most wanted vicious and notorious hired killer.”

Akinwande was reportedly apprehended during a high-risk tactical operation code-named Silence, Speed and Surprise, executed by the Command’s Tactical Squad at his hideout in the Agbado area of Ogun State.

According to Hundeyin, the suspect had eluded capture multiple times and was notorious for terrorizing communities in Mushin and its environs. A cache of firearms and incriminating items was allegedly recovered from his residence—materials the suspect reportedly admitted to using in coordinated killings with his gang.

The charges against Akinwande include the alleged murder of Bankole Yusuf and Ramadan Yusuf in Mushin on July 31, 2024. Another charge implicates him in the killing of 10-year-old Aminat Lateef on December 9, 2010, while she was on an errand in Fadeyi.

Court documents detail multiple offences, including:

– The alleged murder of five individuals—three of whose identities remain unknown—during a violent clash involving an unlawful faction. The suspect is accused of using AK-47 rifles during the confrontation before fleeing to Alagbado, where he was later arrested.

– Possession of a K2 assault rifle (No. AR72739), two AK-47 rifles (Nos. 0275 & 5688), two locally fabricated single-barrel pistols, 70 rounds of 5.56mm live ammunition, 27 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 57 cartridges, three walkie-talkies, and a poisoned dagger—items he could not account for under the Firearms Act.

– Attempted murder and grievous bodily harm to 58-year-old Awawu Ajalara on February 17, 2011, in Idi-Araba, Mushin. The suspect allegedly shot both her legs, resulting in permanent disability.

Akinwande is expected to remain in custody pending further court proceedings.
