FCT Police Arrest Kogi Notorious Kidnap Kingpin, 106 Others in Coordinated Operations

Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have intensified their crackdown on criminal activities with the arrest of a notorious kidnap suspect linked to serial abductions in Kogi State, as well as 106 other suspects apprehended during coordinated raids across the territory, PRNigeria reports.

Sources confirmed that operatives of the Scorpion Squad apprehended the suspected kidnap kingpin, Haruna Suleiman, aged 40, on August 3, 2025, at about 7:00 p.m. at Giri Junction in Gwagwalada. The arrest followed sustained surveillance and digital intelligence operations.

Suleiman, originally from Danja Local Government Area of Katsina State but residing in Giri, Abuja, is accused of orchestrating the repeated abduction of Alhaji Haruna Isiaku, a 79-year-old businessman from Lokoja, Kogi State.

Investigations revealed that the victim was kidnapped multiple times between December 2023 and January 2025, and forced to pay a total ransom of ₦21 million—including ₦2 million in 2023, ₦7 million and ₦5 million in 2024, and another ₦7 million in January 2025.

On August 1, 2025, the gang reportedly contacted the victim again, demanding an additional ₦10 million and threatening a fresh abduction. Acting swiftly, police advised the victim to play along, prompting the suspects to provide a POS account number for the digital transfer of funds. This crucial lead enabled detectives to trace and arrest Suleiman.

The suspect reportedly confessed to the crime and revealed the identities of other members of the kidnapping syndicate. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining accomplices.

In a separate development, the FCT Police Command carried out a series of coordinated raids on August 5, targeting criminal hideouts across the territory. The late-night operation, conducted around 11:40 p.m., involved tactical teams from various divisions including Asokoro, Trademore, Kurudu, Maitama, Durumi, Gwagwa, Nyanya, Lokogoma, Utako, Wuye, and Wuse.

During the raids, 106 suspects were arrested from identified black spots, incomplete buildings, and other locations suspected to harbor criminal elements. Items recovered include quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and other illicit substances.

All suspects are currently undergoing screening and interrogation at their respective divisions, with those found culpable expected to face prosecution upon conclusion of investigations.

The FCT Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to ridding the capital territory of criminal elements and ensuring the safety of residents.
