Arewa Consultative Forum Engages Influencers to Amplify Northern Identity

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has unveiled a new strategy to integrate young people into its activities by embracing digital platforms and social media influencers to reshape narratives about Northern Nigeria.

The move, announced during a roundtable discussion at the ACF headquarters in Kaduna on Friday, is part of events marking the forum’s 25th anniversary.

The engagement, convened by the forum’s Subcommittee on Social Media, sought to foster collaboration between the ACF and the younger generation in the digital space.

Former Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who chaired the discussion, underscored the importance of involving youths in storytelling, especially in an era where digital platforms shape opinions and identities.

“We recognise the impact of the younger generation in shaping narratives and therefore need to integrate and carry them along as the forum continues to promote the political, economic, cultural, and social interests of the North,” he said.

Mohammed explained that the forum is seeking partnerships with social media influencers to amplify its legacy of peacebuilding and dialogue, while also projecting its relevance as a forward-looking institution.

He noted that with 70 percent of Nigerian youths consuming information online, influencers can highlight the ACF’s silver jubilee, showcase community projects, and champion messages of unity, youth inclusion, and development.

ACF Chairman, Mamman Mike Osuman (SAN), described the digital shift as timely, stressing that the younger generation is best positioned to drive the forum’s new online presence.

“It is time to move the ACF to digital platforms, especially social media, and no better persons could be tasked with this responsibility than the younger generation,” he said.

Secretary General of the forum, Murtala Aliyu, expressed concern about the negative portrayal of the North, often defined by poverty and illiteracy.

He emphasised that the participation of young content creators is critical to changing this narrative.

Also speaking, Hajiya Mairo Mudi cautioned youths against the use of vulgar language online and urged them to prioritise fact-checking and responsible engagement as they tell the Northern story.

The ACF assured influencers that they will not merely serve as amplifiers but as creative partners whose ideas will be valued in driving a more positive and inclusive identity for Northern Nigeria.
