Emir of Ilorin, CP Lead Special Prayers Against Insecurity in Kwara
The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has offered spiritual support to ongoing government efforts to curb rising insecurity in the state.
The monarch, on Thursday, convened a special prayer session at his palace, where Islamic clerics, traditional leaders, government officials, and security chiefs gathered to seek divine intervention for peace and protection in Kwara and across Nigeria.
Expressing concern over the worsening security situation in the country, the Emir thanked governments at all levels for their determination to confront the menace.
“This prayer is to seek Allah’s protection for our people, guidance for our leaders, and strength for our security agencies, so that they can overcome those threatening the peace of our land,” he said.
Leading the session, the Chief Imam of Ilorin, Dr. Muhammad Bashir Imam Solih, prayed for lasting peace, unity, and harmony, committing Kwara and Nigeria into the hands of Almighty Allah.

The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, joined the prayer alongside senior government representatives, Islamic scholars, traditional chiefs, community associations, and political leaders from across the Ilorin Emirate.
Rising Security Concerns
Although Kwara is relatively calmer compared to some neighbouring states, recent months have seen a disturbing increase in violent crimes, particularly kidnapping for ransom in communities such as Oro-Ago, Ekiti, Patigi, and Kaiama. Farmers, travellers, and even schoolchildren have been abducted, leaving rural communities anxious and insecure.
In response, the state government, in collaboration with security agencies, vigilantes, and local hunters, has intensified operations against criminal gangs, recording some successes. However, community leaders continue to press for more security deployments to reinforce ongoing efforts.
The prayer session, according to palace officials, underscores the need for both divine guidance and practical security measures in addressing Kwara’s growing insecurity challenges.
