Ajaokuta Steel Mourns Shagari as Father of Steel Development

The Sole Administrator, Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited, Engr. Sumaila Abdul Akaba has described the death of ALHAJI SHEHU ALIYU USMAN SHAGARI, GCFR, Turakin Sokoto as a huge loss to the Nigerian Steel family and the Nation.

In a condolence letter to the family and addressed to Hon. Aminu Aliyu Shagari, a Member of the House of Representatives, the Ajaokuta Steel Company Chief Executive described the late elder statesman as a distinguished Nigerian Patriot, a Teacher and the FATHER of STEEL DEVELOPMNET in Nigeria.

The Sole Administrator said, ‘’Looking back, the late elder statesman, gave meaning to purposeful leadership by his actions and deeds, particularly his uncommon drive and zeal exhibited by his efforts at placing Nigeria on the path of industrialization with his programme on Steel Development during his four year leadership as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“We in Ajaokuta are beneficiaries of his great and lofty ideas, because the Ajaokuta Steel Plant as it stands today is and still will remain his worthy legacy, adding that, it is his strongly believe that the efforts of the late sage, shall come to fruition because of late Shagari’s strong belief in a virile nation with a strong industrial base’’.

Engr. Sumaila Abdul Akaba further said that, though the loss of Alhaji Shehu Shagari is a personal loss to the immediate family, we in Ajaokuta also feel a greater part of the grief, because he has left us with a challenge that Ajaokuta Steel Dream must not die.

Similarly, in a condolence letter to the Sokoto State Governor Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and the Sultanate, the Ajaokuta Steel Management said Nigeria and the good people of Sokoto State will greatly miss his wise counsel especially at this moment of Nigeria’s dire need for peace and tolerance.

On behalf of my humble self, Management and the entire workers of Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited, we remain eternally grateful to this great Son of Nigeria. Please accept our most sincere heartfelt condolences; he added.
