S/Eagles’ Bronze Medal Showcases Nigeria’s Unprecedented Feat in AFCON – Information Minister
The Federal Government has congratulated the Super Eagles for clinching the bronze medal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, describing the achievement as a reflection of Nigeria’s unprecedented and enduring legacy in African football.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, gave the commendation in a statement issued on Saturday, praising the national team for their resilience, discipline and fighting spirit throughout the tournament.
Idris said the Super Eagles’ performance from the group stages to the final match in Casablanca inspired millions of Nigerians at home and in the diaspora, adding that the team upheld the country’s rich football tradition with courage and unity.
According to him, the bronze medal further strengthens Nigeria’s remarkable record at the Africa Cup of Nations, underscoring the country’s consistency and relevance as a football powerhouse on the continent.

“You have upheld Nigeria’s rich football tradition with heart, skill, and resilience. You didn’t just play; you inspired millions of Nigerians,” the minister said.
He noted that the team’s ability to compete strongly against some of Africa’s best sides demonstrated discipline, teamwork and belief, despite missing out on the ultimate prize.
The minister also commended the coaches, support staff and players for their dedication and sacrifices, saying their collective effort reflected the true strength of the nation.
“To every player who wore the green and white jersey, thank you for your dedication. You reminded us that true strength lies in teamwork, belief, and pride in our nation,” he added.
Idris said although the Super Eagles fell short of winning the trophy, the bronze medal was earned with dignity and belonged to every Nigerian who supported the team throughout the competition.
He urged the players to celebrate the achievement with pride and allow it to strengthen their resolve ahead of future international challenges.
“The Super Eagles have done well, and Nigeria applauds them for representing the nation with honour,” the statement said.
