Oyo/Osun Customs Seizes N2.7bn Smuggled Goods, Surpasses 2025 Revenue Target
The Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has recorded seizures valued at more than ₦2.7 billion while surpassing its 2025 revenue target, reflecting what the Service described as strengthened enforcement and improved compliance within its area of responsibility.
The Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller Wale Adewole, disclosed this on Thursday during his maiden press briefing at the Command’s headquarters.
Adewole said the seizures were the outcome of intelligence-led operations and sustained patrols across major flashpoints in Oyo and Osun states, stressing that the Command had intensified efforts to curb smuggling and other forms of economic sabotage.
According to him, the seized items included foreign parboiled rice, used tyres, premium motor spirit, used clothing, pharmaceutical products, foreign spaghetti, compressors, illicit drugs, smuggled vehicles and other prohibited goods.
“In the discharge of our statutory responsibilities, the Command recorded remarkable seizures of prohibited and uncustomed goods,” Adewole said, adding that the successes were driven by credible intelligence, effective surveillance and coordinated enforcement strategies.

He warned smugglers and other economic saboteurs to desist from illegal activities, noting that such actions pose serious risks to public safety and undermine the nation’s economy.
“The Oyo/Osun Area Command remains fully prepared and determined to enforce compliance with Customs laws,” he said.
On revenue generation, the Acting Controller revealed that the Command generated ₦8.37 billion in December 2025 alone and exceeded its annual revenue target by more than ₦13.1 billion, representing a 15.22 per cent increase.
He attributed the performance to improved compliance by stakeholders, effective monitoring mechanisms, professionalism among officers and sustained engagement with relevant partners.
“We remain committed to facilitating legitimate trade while ensuring that government revenue is adequately protected,” Adewole stated.
He also underscored the importance of collaboration with sister security agencies, describing inter-agency cooperation as essential to effective border management and enforcement.
Adewole expressed appreciation to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, for his leadership and support, as well as the Oyo State Government for its cooperation with the Service.
He said the maiden briefing was part of the Command’s commitment to transparency and accountability, while reaffirming its resolve to sustain enforcement operations, boost revenue generation and promote lawful trade across the zone.
