NDLEA Projects Stronger Drug Control with 2026–2030 Master Plan
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced that its upcoming National Drug Control Master Plan (NDCMP 2026–2030) will significantly strengthen Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to curb drug abuse and trafficking across the country.
The announcement was made on Thursday, 26 February 2026, at the NDLEA national headquarters in Abuja by Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), while receiving the final summative evaluation report on the performance of the NDCMP 2021–2025.
Marwa said the next master plan, currently in preparation, will build on the successes of its predecessor and deliver measurable benefits for public health and national security.

“I commend your commitment, diligence, and the excellent work done in evaluating the NDCMP 2021–2025. Your acknowledgment of the agency’s achievements in implementing the drug supply and demand reduction pillars is highly appreciated. By the time the NDCMP 2026–2030 is fully ready and implemented, we will achieve even more under the renewed hope administration of President Bola Tinubu for the benefit of Nigerians and the country as a whole,” Marwa said.
He praised the team of consultants, led by Professor Ibrahim Abdu Wakawa, Head of the Mental Health Department at the University of Maiduguri, for their thorough evaluation of the previous master plan. Prof. Wakawa, joined by Mrs. Ngozi Oguejiofor and Mrs. Ibiba Odili, both former Assistant Commanders General of Narcotics, commended Marwa’s leadership, noting that the agency had exceeded most expectations outlined in the 2021–2025 plan.
Prof. Wakawa expressed confidence that the NDLEA would address any identified gaps, particularly in the area of drug demand reduction, as the 2026–2030 plan is implemented.
The NDLEA boss assured that the forthcoming master plan will consolidate the agency’s efforts to combat drug abuse, reduce the supply of illicit substances, and enhance national security while promoting public health initiatives across Nigeria.
The presentation of the evaluation report and the planning of the next master plan underscore the agency’s commitment to continuous improvement and strategic collaboration in the fight against illicit drugs.
