IGP Disu Decorates 7 Promoted DIGs, Preaches Discipline, Professionalism
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, has urged newly promoted Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs) to uphold discipline, integrity and professionalism in the discharge of their responsibilities.
Disu gave the charge on Monday during the decoration ceremony of the senior officers at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Abuja.
According to the IGP, elevation to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General is not merely the wearing of new insignia but a recognition of years of dedication and a call to greater responsibility in the leadership of the police force.
He noted that the rank represents one of the highest levels of professional trust within the Nigeria Police Force and requires wisdom, courage and an unwavering commitment to justice and public service.
“As members of the top strategic leadership of the Nigeria Police Force, you are now entrusted with responsibilities that go beyond operational command,” Disu said.
“You are expected to provide institutional direction, strengthen internal discipline, drive reforms and ensure that our policing strategies remain responsive to the evolving security landscape of our nation.”
The police chief observed that the country’s security environment has become increasingly complex, with emerging threats ranging from organised crime and cyber-enabled offences to violent criminal networks.

He therefore urged the newly promoted officers to leverage their wealth of experience to strengthen intelligence-led policing, deepen inter-agency collaboration and improve operational coordination across commands nationwide.
“The security environment in which we operate continues to evolve in complexity. From organised crime and cyber-enabled threats to violent criminal networks and emerging security challenges, the expectations placed on the Nigeria Police Force have never been greater,” he said.
“It is therefore imperative that our leadership remains forward-looking, strategic and firmly committed to professionalism and operational excellence.
“In this regard, I charge you to bring your vast experience to bear in strengthening intelligence-led policing, deepening inter-agency cooperation, enhancing operational coordination across commands and reinforcing accountability within the ranks.”
Disu added that the roles of the DIGs would be pivotal to ongoing efforts to reposition the Nigeria Police Force as a more professional, technologically driven and citizen-focused institution.
The Police Service Commission had earlier approved the promotion of several Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General.
Those elevated include Zachariah Achinyan, Zango Baba, Isyaku Mohammed, Margaret Challa, Mohammed Sulaiman, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, Fayode Mustapha and Umar Nadada.
