Operation Whirl Stroke Rescues 5 Abductees, Seizes Firearms in Katsina-Ala
Troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE have successfully rescued five kidnapped victims in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area as part of ongoing intelligence-led efforts to restore peace and security in the region. The operation underscores the determination of the Joint Task Force to sustain pressure on criminal elements and deny them freedom of action.
The released victims include Babaji Muhammad, 40, who had spent ten days in captivity along Chede-Takun Road; Sunday Yamusa, 45, Annumba Obunde, 40, and Babangida Ibbi, 41, all abducted along Tor Donga Road for over a month; and Doofan Ahula, 54, who had been held for one month and two days along Chede-Takun Road. Troops intervened after closing in on the kidnappers, leaving them no avenue for escape.

In a related operation on 13 March 2026, troops acted on intelligence reports of bandit activities at Mtam Village, Utange Council Ward. While the suspects fled prior to troop arrival, security forces recovered a significant cache of weapons and equipment, including six pistols, one Dane gun, 107 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, one smoke grenade, camouflage uniforms, desert combat boots, motorcycles, and several charms abandoned by the criminals.
The Force Commander of the Joint Task Force, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops for their professionalism and resilience, urging them to sustain the operational momentum against criminal elements. Major General Gara also expressed gratitude to the public for providing credible intelligence, encouraging residents to continue reporting suspicious activities to support the ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace in the area.
