Navy Seizes 3,950 Litres of Stolen Fuel in Calabar
The Nigerian Navy has intercepted about 3,950 litres of stolen petroleum products at the Nigerian Ports Authority facility in Calabar, Cross River State, as part of ongoing efforts to curb crude oil theft and other maritime crimes.
The seizure was carried out by personnel deployed under Operation Delta Sentinel following credible intelligence on suspected siphoning of petroleum products from vessels berthed at the port.
In a statement on Saturday, the Director of Naval Information, Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, said the naval team swiftly deployed to the area after receiving intelligence reports of the illegal activity.
According to him, personnel from NNS Victory traced the suspected siphoned products to a trailer park within the port facility.
Folorunsho said the suspected perpetrators fled the scene upon sighting the naval patrol team.

“On sighting the naval patrol team, the suspected perpetrators fled the scene, after which the area was cordoned off and the illegally siphoned products secured,” the statement said.
Further inspection of the location led to the recovery of approximately 3,950 litres of Automotive Gas Oil stored in several drums and jerrycans.
The Navy said the recovered petroleum products had been evacuated to its base for further necessary action in line with existing regulations.
Folorunsho noted that the successful interception was part of ongoing efforts by the Navy to intensify operations against crude oil theft and other forms of economic sabotage within Nigeria’s maritime domain.
He reiterated the Navy’s commitment to sustaining the operational tempo of Operation Delta Sentinel through intensified surveillance, patrols and intelligence-driven operations aimed at combating illegal bunkering and related crimes.
