EID-EL-FITR: Muslims Worldwide Mark End of Ramadan with Prayers, Reflection as Nigeria Boosts Security Nationwide
Muslim faithful across Nigeria on Friday joined millions around the world to celebrate Eid-el-Fitr, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan with prayers, charity, and renewed calls for peace and national unity.
In major cities including Abuja, Lagos, Kano, and Maiduguri, large congregations gathered at designated Eid prayer grounds to observe the special prayers. Clerics, in their sermons, emphasized the need for sustained piety, compassion, and social responsibility, urging leaders and citizens alike to work towards national cohesion and economic recovery.
The celebrations, however, unfolded under tight security as authorities moved to ensure a peaceful festive period. The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, ordered a nationwide deployment of tactical teams, intelligence operatives, and conventional police personnel.
Security presence was significantly heightened around Eid grounds, highways, motor parks, recreational centres, and other public spaces. Coordinated patrols, surveillance operations, and intelligence-led stop-and-search duties were also intensified to deter criminal activities and enable swift response to emerging threats.
In parts of northern Nigeria, where security challenges have persisted, residents observed the festivities with cautious optimism, commending the visible presence of security personnel. Community leaders called for vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement agencies to sustain peace during and after the celebrations.

Economic realities also shaped the tone of this year’s Eid in Nigeria, with many families opting for modest celebrations amid rising living costs. Nonetheless, the spirit of generosity remained evident, as individuals and organizations distributed alms, food items, and clothing to the less privileged in line with Islamic teachings.
Beyond Nigeria, Eid-el-Fitr was marked with similar devotion and enthusiasm across the globe. In Saudi Arabia, Islam’s holiest sites hosted massive congregational prayers, with worshippers offering supplications for global peace and stability.
In Indonesia, the world’s largest Muslim-majority nation, millions thronged mosques and open spaces, maintaining long-standing traditions that blend religious observance with cultural festivities.
Worshippers in Turkey also marked the occasion with prayers and family gatherings, while leaders used the moment to stress unity and humanitarian values.
In Western countries such as the United Kingdom and the United States, Muslim communities gathered in large numbers, reflecting the diversity and global spread of Islam. Messages from political and community leaders in these countries highlighted inclusion, tolerance, and interfaith harmony.
Across various regions, the celebration was also accompanied by prayers for peace in conflict-affected areas, including parts of the Middle East and Africa, as Muslim leaders called for justice, dialogue, and international cooperation.
Despite differences in geography and local realities, the essence of Eid-el-Fitr remained universal—gratitude, spiritual renewal, and a reaffirmation of the values of sacrifice, charity, and compassion cultivated during Ramadan.
As celebrations continue, authorities in Nigeria and other countries have urged citizens to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and committed to the peaceful ideals that define the festival.
