Police Debunk Terror Alert in Abuja, Arrest Suspect
The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed as false a viral video alleging an ongoing terrorist attack in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, describing the claim as misleading and aimed at inciting public panic.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Force said there was no such incident anywhere in the nation’s capital, stressing that the video was deliberately manipulated to create a false narrative capable of undermining public confidence in the country’s security framework.
According to the police, preliminary investigations showed that the footage used in the video was sourced from online platforms and misrepresented to suggest a non-existent security threat in Abuja.

The police further disclosed that a suspect, identified as Pam Joseph, has been arrested in connection with the creation and circulation of the video. The arrest, the statement noted, followed credible intelligence and digital forensic investigations which linked the suspect to the origin of the content.
The Force emphasized that while citizens have the constitutional right to freedom of expression, such rights do not extend to the spread of misinformation that could threaten public peace and national security.
It urged members of the public to verify information before sharing, warning against actions capable of inciting fear or disorder.
The suspect remains in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Reaffirming its commitment to maintaining law and order, the Nigeria Police Force said it would continue to monitor digital platforms and take decisive action against individuals found culpable of spreading false or misleading information.
