NAF Trains 49 Personnel to Enhance Airfield Safety Operations
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has graduated 49 personnel from specialised airfield support and safety courses aimed at enhancing operational air safety and strengthening air mission support across the country.
The graduates completed the Air Traffic Control Assistant/Base Operations Upgrading Course 9/2026 and Fire Upgrading Course 10/2026 conducted by the Air Traffic Services Training Centre (ATSTC).
The intensive four-week training programme equipped participants with advanced skills in air traffic control procedures, aerodrome operations, emergency coordination, aircraft rescue and firefighting operations considered critical to sustaining safe and efficient air operations within NAF operational theatres and joint-user airfields.

During the training, participants underwent classroom instruction, simulator-based exercises and practical drills focused on runway incursion prevention, flight data processing, aerodrome inspections, Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) origination, aircraft firefighting tactics and mass casualty response procedures.
The Fire Upgrading Course also concentrated on meeting International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) emergency response standards, particularly in achieving prescribed response timelines during aviation emergencies.
As part of the practical exposure, the trainees embarked on guided study tours to the 401 Flying Training School and Hassan Usman Katsina International Airport, Kaduna, where they observed real-time operational procedures and best practices in airfield management and emergency response operations.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony, the Commandant of ATSTC, Air Vice Marshal NB Folaji, underscored the importance of air traffic control, base operations and firefighting personnel in ensuring safe, seamless and uninterrupted flying operations.
He commended the graduating personnel for their discipline, resilience and commitment throughout the training, adding that the successful completion of the courses had further strengthened the operational readiness and safety architecture supporting NAF air operations nationwide.
