NADCEL 2026: 4 Brigade Takes Free Medical Care, Educational Support to Edo Communities
The Headquarters, 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, has provided free medical services to thousands of residents and distributed educational materials to students in Edo State.
This efforts, according to release signed by Captain Kennedy Anyanwu, Assistant Director Army Public Relations is part of activities marking the 163rd Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2026, to reinforce its commitment to strengthening civil-military relations through non-kinetic engagements.
The week-long activities also featured a 10-kilometre route march, public speaking engagement and educational outreach aimed at promoting public awareness of the Nigerian Army’s role in national security and community development.
Leading the activities, the Commander of 4 Brigade, Brigadier General Ahmed Balogun, said the initiatives reflected the Nigerian Army’s commitment to serving the people beyond its constitutional responsibility of defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
According to him, the 10-kilometre route march through major streets of Benin City was designed to create awareness about NADCEL 2026 while demonstrating the Brigade’s operational readiness to address emerging security threats within its area of responsibility.
Following the march, the Brigade visited Edo College, Benin City, where students were taken through the history and evolution of the Nigerian Army and enlightened on career opportunities within the Service. The programme featured a documentary presentation, an interactive session and the donation of educational books provided by Army Headquarters.

The school principal, Mr. Justice Aigbe, commended the Brigade for the initiative, while students expressed appreciation for the opportunity to learn more about the Nigerian Army and its operations.
As part of its humanitarian activities, the Brigade also conducted a free medical outreach at Amufi and neighbouring communities in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, where residents received medical consultations, eye screening, dental care, essential drugs, laboratory tests, malaria screening, hepatitis B and C tests, retroviral screening, blood sugar tests and blood pressure checks.
Brigadier General Balogun said the outreach was intended to improve the well-being of host communities and appreciate residents for their continued support to military operations.
Community leaders praised the intervention, with the Ohen of Amufi Kingdom, Chief Iyi-Ewuare Asenogua, disclosing that more than 3,000 residents benefited from the free healthcare services.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Ikpoba Hill Youth Forum, Mr. Kingsley Osemwingie, described the exercise as a demonstration of the Nigerian Army’s concern for the welfare of the people.
In a related development, the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), 4 Brigade Chapter, led by its Zonal Coordinator, Mrs. Mariam Aina Balogun, visited Army Day Secondary School, Ikpoba Hill, where educational materials, including customised exercise books, pens, pencils and erasers, were distributed to more than 500 students to support learning and encourage academic excellence.
The activities formed part of the Nigerian Army’s nationwide NADCEL 2026 celebrations, themed “Protecting the Nation and Serving the People: A Way Forward for the Nigerian Army.
