Customs Strengthens Border Surveillance with Operational Tour of Nigeria-Cameroon Waterways
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing border security and safeguarding Nigeria’s inland waterways following a maiden operational tour of key marine outstations in Adamawa State by the Acting Comptroller of the North Eastern Marine Command (NEC), Deputy Comptroller of Customs (DC) Joseph Ikewun.
The operational assessment tour, conducted on July 2, 2026, formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen surveillance, improve operational efficiency and bolster anti-smuggling activities along the Nigeria-Cameroon border.
The tour commenced with a strategic meeting between DC Ikewun and the Customs Area Controller of the Adamawa/Taraba Area Command, Comptroller of Customs Muhammed Tako. During the meeting, both officers deliberated on intelligence sharing, border security, anti-smuggling operations and other areas of mutual operational interest aimed at reinforcing enforcement along the international border.
Accompanied by officers of the Customs Intelligence Unit and the Operation Whirlwind Team, the Acting Comptroller visited the Jimeta-Yola Marine Base Jetty before proceeding by patrol boat to the Ribadu, Wuroboki and Kochiel Marine Outstations situated along the Nigeria-Cameroon waterways.
