Airstrike Hits ISWAP Convoy in Borno, Scores Eliminated
The Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI has conducted a precision airstrike on a suspected gathering of Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters in Yaganari, Borno State, as part of ongoing intelligence-driven operations targeting terrorist strongholds in the North-East.
Military sources disclosed that the strike was carried out in the early hours of July 17 following credible intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) that tracked the movement of suspected insurgents to a larger assembly point.
According to the sources, an ISR platform was deployed over the Yaganari axis after intelligence reports indicated renewed terrorist activity in the area. During the surveillance mission, aerial operators initially observed four suspected terrorists moving within the vicinity, with two of them later proceeding to an unidentified location.
The surveillance platform maintained continuous observation, leading to the discovery of a larger gathering of about 12 suspected ISWAP fighters assembled beneath a tree.

After confirming the target and ensuring all operational requirements were met, the Air Component executed a precision strike at approximately 12:32 a.m., successfully engaging the location.
A preliminary Battle Damage Assessment (BDA) indicated that an unconfirmed number of the terrorists were neutralised in the strike, while several others fled into nearby hideouts in different directions.
Military sources said aerial surveillance remained over the area after the strike to monitor the movement of the fleeing insurgents and identify additional targets for possible follow-on operations.
The sources described the operation as another significant intelligence-led success aimed at degrading the operational capability of terrorist groups, disrupting their command and control structures, and denying them the freedom to regroup.
The latest airstrike forms part of the sustained air campaign under Operation HADIN KAI, which continues to target terrorist enclaves, logistics networks and movement corridors across Borno State in support of ongoing ground operations to restore lasting peace and security in the North-East.
