Troops Kill 2 ISWAP Terrorists Near UNIMAID, Intensify Clearance Operations
Troops of the Nigerian Army under Operation HADIN KAI, in collaboration with local vigilantes, have neutralised two suspected fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) during a successful ambush operation along Tamsukawu Road, behind the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) in Borno State.
Security sources disclosed that the operation was carried out at about 12:15 a.m. on July 16, when troops of the 73 Battalion lying in wait along the route intercepted a group of suspected terrorists attempting to move through the area.

According to the sources, the troops engaged the insurgents in a fierce gun battle, resulting in the neutralisation of two suspected ISWAP fighters. Other members of the group reportedly fled into the surrounding bushes under pressure from the advancing troops.
Following the encounter, the troops launched an immediate exploitation and clearance operation in the surrounding area to track down the fleeing terrorists. However, no further contact was established during the search.
Military sources said the operation is part of the sustained offensive by Operation HADIN KAI aimed at denying terrorists freedom of movement and disrupting infiltration routes around Maiduguri and its surrounding communities, particularly areas frequently exploited by insurgents.
The sources added that security across the theatre remains stable, with troops maintaining a high level of vigilance and operational readiness to counter any emerging threats in the North-East.
