Troops, Hunters Foil Terrorists’ Tax Collection From Herders, Recover Arms in Adamawa
Troops of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with local hunters, have ambushed suspected terrorists allegedly collecting illegal taxes from herders along the Gaba–Dzangola highway in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The operation, conducted by troops of the 226 Battalion, followed intelligence indicating that the terrorists were operating around Guyaku District, where they were reportedly extorting herders.
Military sources said the troops established an ambush at a strategic location at about 11:15 p.m. on August 6, 2026, to intercept the group.
According to the sources, the troops made contact with the suspected terrorists at about 4:42 a.m. on August 7, triggering an exchange of fire that forced the group to retreat in disarray.

Although the number of casualties suffered by the terrorists could not be immediately ascertained, troops recovered several weapons and rounds of ammunition abandoned by the fleeing group.
The recovered items included one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, 15 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, one locally fabricated pistol and three rounds of 9mm ammunition.
There were no reported casualties among the troops during the operation.
The troops subsequently returned to their base after successfully disrupting the terrorists’ activities in the area.
The operation underscores ongoing efforts by the Nigerian Army and local security partners to disrupt terrorist and criminal activities, particularly the extortion of rural communities and herders, and to maintain security along major routes in the region.
