Troops Foil Roadside Bomb, Break Terrorists’ Network, Nab Logistics Suppliers with Cash in Zamfara
Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recorded major operational successes against terrorist groups in Zamfara State, neutralising a suspected roadside improvised explosive device (IED), disrupting terrorist movements, arresting two suspected logistics suppliers and recovering over ₦5.3 million allegedly meant for terrorists.
The operations, conducted on August 7, 2026, also led to the recovery of military accoutrements, communication equipment, motorcycles and other operational items used by the criminal elements.
In one of the operations, troops of Sector 2, working alongside a Nigeria Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team, responded to intelligence on a suspected improvised explosive device planted near Jabanda Village in Zurmi Local Government Area.
The joint team successfully located and safely neutralised the explosive device before conducting a comprehensive sweep of the area. After certifying the route safe, the road was reopened to motorists, averting what could have been a deadly attack on commuters.
While returning from the operation, the troops encountered armed terrorists around Birnin Tsaba Village in Birnin Magaji Local Government Area. A fierce gun battle ensued, forcing the terrorists to retreat into the surrounding forest.
Subsequent exploitation of the area led to the recovery of two motorcycles, a camouflage jungle hat, a handheld radio and other items believed to have been abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.

In another operation in Shinkafi Local Government Area, troops of Sector 2, supported by personnel of the Mobile Police Squadron, acted on credible intelligence regarding terrorist activities around Kwanar Jolof.
The security team engaged the terrorists with superior firepower, compelling them to flee in disarray. A follow-up search of the area resulted in the recovery of a motorcycle, camouflage uniforms, a camouflage vest, a jungle hat and other operational materials.
The troops also recorded a breakthrough in efforts to dismantle terrorist logistics networks.
During a patrol near Maradun, security operatives intercepted a suspected terrorist collaborator and logistics supplier, Lawali Dan Alo, 35.
According to the military, a search of his bag—which he initially claimed contained food items—revealed ₦5.302 million in cash and a mobile phone.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect was allegedly transporting the money on behalf of a terrorist kingpin to another suspect, Kasimu Garba, who was subsequently arrested at his residence.
Both suspects are currently in military custody and are undergoing further investigation.
Commending the troops for their professionalism, courage and vigilance, the Theatre Command of Operation FANSAN YAMMA reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining intelligence-driven operations and aggressive patrols aimed at dismantling terrorist networks across the North-West.
The command also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible intelligence to security agencies, stressing that public cooperation remains critical to restoring lasting peace and security in the region.
The latest operations underscore the ongoing efforts of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to degrade terrorist capabilities by targeting not only armed fighters but also their logistics, financing and mobility networks across the North-West.
