Troops Rescue 25 Hostages, Repel Terrorist Ambush in Kwara, Taraba
Troops conducting security operations in Kwara and Taraba states have rescued a total of 25 kidnapped victims and repelled a terrorist ambush in separate operations, further intensifying efforts to disrupt criminal networks and protect vulnerable communities.
In Kwara State, troops of Sector 1, Operation SAFE HAVEN, rescued seven kidnap victims during a night patrol in Patigi Local Government Area.
The troops, deployed at Gada, rescued the victims at about 9 p.m. on August 18 while conducting a patrol around the Latandaji general area.
The operation followed sustained patrols aimed at denying criminal elements freedom of action and safeguarding communities and commuters within the area.
The seven victims were taken into military custody for further action.
In a separate operation in Ifelodun LGA of the state, the troops repelled an ambush by suspected terrorists and neutralised one of the attackers.
The troops, deployed at Babanla, were conducting a fighting patrol at about 9:47 a.m. on August 18 when they encountered the terrorists at Alabe Idera.
The troops responded with heavy firepower, forcing the attackers to withdraw in disarray.
One soldier sustained injuries during the encounter and was administered first aid.

The troops subsequently recovered an AK-47 rifle, one magazine containing five rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, an Itel mobile phone and a solar panel.
Meanwhile, in Taraba State, troops of Sector 3 rescued 18 kidnapped victims during a night operation in Ibi Local Government Area.
The troops, deployed at Ibi, responded to reports of kidnapping activities at Kwatan Bajji at about 1:30 a.m. on August 18.
According to security sources, the troops immediately mobilised to the area, prompting the suspected kidnappers to flee upon sighting the advancing troops.
The troops subsequently rescued 18 victims from the area without making direct contact with the fleeing criminals.
A badge was also recovered during the operation and retained by the troops for further investigation.
The rescued victims were subsequently released to reunite with their families.
The operations in both states form part of sustained security efforts to disrupt kidnapping and terrorist networks, deny criminal elements freedom of action and protect communities in vulnerable areas.
Security forces are expected to maintain patrols, fighting operations and other intelligence-led activities across their areas of responsibility to prevent further attacks and abductions and enhance the safety of residents.
