FG Deploys More Weapons, Vehicles to Kano as Matawalle Assures End to Insecurity
The Federal Government has announced plans to deploy additional fighting vehicles, weapons and other operational equipment to Kano State as part of renewed efforts to tackle insecurity and strengthen ongoing security operations.
The Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Muhammad Matawalle, disclosed this on Monday during a condolence and assessment visit to the Kano State Government House following the bandit attack on Chiroma Village in Garun Mallam Local Government Area on August 29, 2026.
Matawalle reaffirmed the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to ending insecurity and restoring lasting peace across the country.
He said the Federal Government was adopting proactive operations, strategic planning and stronger collaboration with state governments to address security threats.
“The President has constituted a committee to develop a Five-Year Defence and Security Plan. This will guide our long-term approach to tackling security threats across the country,” the minister said.
According to him, following the attack, the Commander of 3 Brigade, Kano, Brigadier General Jimoh, led a joint rescue operation involving troops of the Joint Task Force from the Hawan-Kwano and Kwanar Dangora camps.
He said the operation resulted in the rescue of kidnapped victims around Yan-Kifi Bridge and Marabar Kwari areas of Garun Mallam LGA.
The minister commended the troops for their prompt response and courage, assuring that the Federal Government would continue to strengthen the operational capabilities of the Armed Forces and other security agencies.

“We will continue doing everything possible to support our security services to ensure our country is safe. I assure you that soon, insecurity will be a thing of the past, and we will all live in peace and prosperity,” he said.
Matawalle stressed that defeating insecurity required coordinated efforts among the federal, state and local governments, as well as active cooperation from citizens.
“It takes the combined effort of local government, state and federal levels to tackle this issue of insecurity. We also need timely and credible information from citizens to security agencies,” he said.
He assured the Kano State Government of increased federal support, including the provision of additional fighting vehicles, weapons and other operational enablers to enhance security operations across the state.
Earlier, the minister held a closed-door security meeting with commanders of 3 Brigade and other security formations in Kano, where he directed them to sustain the momentum of ongoing operations and intensify efforts to protect communities.
He reiterated the Federal Government’s determination to provide the resources and support required to safeguard lives and property while protecting the nation’s territorial integrity.
Responding, Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, thanked the minister for visiting the state and pledged continued collaboration with the Federal Government to address security challenges.
“We are confident in your leadership. At the state level, we will continue to do what needs to be done to ensure security and stability in Kano,” the governor said.
Yusuf added that the state government would work with the Federal Government to ensure that insecurity did not gain a foothold in Kano State.
