Kano Police Nab 47 Suspected Criminals, Recover Weapons, Illicit Drugs
The Kano State Police Command has arrested 47 suspects for alleged thuggery, drug peddling, breach of public peace and other related offences during intelligence-led operations conducted across the state between October 1 and 7, 2026.
The operations also led to the recovery of dangerous weapons, suspected illicit drugs, three Android mobile phones believed to have been stolen and a tricycle allegedly used by suspected phone snatchers.
The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.
According to the statement, the arrests were recorded through coordinated operations by personnel of Panshekara, Kiru and Hotoro police divisions, the Anti-Kidnapping Squad and the Special Intervention Squad.
At Panshekara Police Division, three separate operations led to the arrest of 21 suspects allegedly involved in drug-related activities.
The suspects were reportedly found with substances suspected to include Pregabalin, Exol, Diazepam and cannabis.
In a separate operation, the surveillance team of Kiru Police Division arrested a 22-year-old suspect, identified as Sadam Shuaibu, at Yako Village on October 7. The police said 105 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and other suspected hard drugs were recovered from him.
The command also reported the arrest of 13 suspected members of the Yan Daba gang in the Hotoro Mahautar Gabas area on October 4, following complaints that the group was terrorising residents.
Items recovered during the operation included 216 bottles of a substance locally known as Suck and Die, six tubes of Red Sun solution, four cutlasses, five axes, a sword, knives, hacksaws, sticks, sharp iron rods and other items.

Police said charms and four empty four-litre gallons previously containing the Suck and Die substance were also recovered.
In another operation on October 3, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad arrested 10 suspected thugs following information about the gathering of a large group of suspected gang members around the Yan Yashi/Kofar Ruwa axis of Dala Local Government Area.
The police said swords, cutlasses, knives, clubs, dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and other illicit substances were recovered from the suspects.
Meanwhile, operatives of the Special Intervention Squad arrested two suspected phone snatchers along the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital axis on October 4.
The suspects, identified as Yaro Ahmad, 20, also known as Saisan, and Nafiu Almustapha, 20, known as Small, were allegedly operating with a commercial tricycle when they were intercepted.
Three Android phones suspected to have been stolen and the tricycle were recovered. According to the police, preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects allegedly used pickpocketing tactics to dispossess passengers of their phones while conveying them to their destinations.
The command said all the suspects were undergoing investigation at various police formations and would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police commended the officers for their professionalism and diligence, while acknowledging the cooperation of residents whose information contributed to the operations.
Bakori warned criminal elements to desist from unlawful activities, adding that the command would sustain its efforts to combat thuggery, drug trafficking and other crimes across the state.
