Put Nigeria First, Uphold Service Values – Adeniyi Charges New Customs Recruits
The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, has charged newly inaugurated recruits to prioritise national interest, demonstrate discipline and uphold the core values of the Service as they begin their careers.
Adeniyi gave the charge on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at the Customs Training College, Ikeja, Lagos, while reaffirming the Service’s commitment to producing competent, disciplined and professional personnel through quality training and improved facilities.
Represented by the Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs in charge of Training and Doctrine, Suleiman Chiroma, the Comptroller-General said the recruits had emerged from a rigorous selection process and were chosen based on their potential to contribute to Nigeria’s security, development and prosperity.
“We expect nothing but the best from them, and we expect service delivery. We are going to do our best to train them and put them on the path to national recovery, national growth and national prosperity,” he said.

Adeniyi expressed confidence that the recruits would develop into worthy ambassadors of Nigeria, stressing that their success would depend on their willingness to work diligently, maintain high professional standards and demonstrate commitment to their responsibilities.
He also inspected facilities at the college, commending ongoing improvements to the hostels, bathrooms, kitchen, classrooms, sports facilities, clinic and parade ground.
“When I went around, I was impressed by the improvements we saw in the hostels, the bathrooms, the kitchen and the classrooms, and, in fact, the general environment,” he said.
The inspection, according to the statement, underscored the Service’s emphasis on providing a conducive learning environment to support effective training and personnel development.
Earlier, the Commandant of the Customs Training College, Deputy Comptroller of Customs Patience Ita, urged the recruits to maintain good conduct, uphold integrity and remain committed to the demands of their training.
Ita expressed confidence that the recruits would gradually adapt to the programme’s requirements and develop the discipline and professional competence needed to serve the country effectively.
The training is expected to prepare the new personnel for the responsibilities of customs administration, including the protection of national economic interests and the enforcement of relevant laws and regulations.
