REVEALED: How DSS Arrested Maina’s Fugitive Son in Abuja, Handed Him Over to EFCC for Prosecution
The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested Faisal Abdulrasheed Maina, the fugitive son of former Chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina, and handed him over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Security sources disclosed that Faisal, who had been at large since 2020, was apprehended by DSS operatives in the Karsana area of Abuja following intelligence reports indicating that he had secretly returned to Nigeria.
“His arrest followed credible intelligence which indicated that Faisal had secretly returned to the country,” a security source said.

Faisal was previously prosecuted by the EFCC on a three-count charge bordering on money laundering and conspiracy. He reportedly fled the country after allegedly violating his bail conditions, prompting the continuation of his trial in absentia.
In 2021, Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court sentenced him to 14 years’ imprisonment following his conviction.
The court also ordered his arrest wherever he was found in Nigeria and directed that he be remanded in a correctional facility to serve his sentence. It further ordered the Federal Government to take lawful steps to secure his extradition if he was found outside the country.
The handover to the EFCC is expected to facilitate the enforcement of the court’s judgment and the implementation of the sentence imposed on him.
A security source said the transfer would enable the relevant authorities to take the necessary steps in accordance with the court’s orders.
Faisal’s arrest marks a significant development in efforts to enforce the outstanding judgment against him after years on the run.
