DEPOWA Seeks NGOs’ Supports towards widows of fallen heroes

The Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Assocation (DEPOWA) has distributed various food items and other household provisions to widows of some fallen heroes.

The items include bags of rice, tubers of yam, semovita, soaps, spaghetti, detergents, beverages, cartons of noodle, salts, books, mathematical sets, and an undisclosed amount of cash.

They were distributed by the wife of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Mrs. Omobolanle Olonisakin, at a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) event tagged: “Tribute to Our Troops”.

The CSR is part of the activities lined up for the “2020 Unsung Heroes Concert” to mark this year’s “Armed Forces Remembrance Day”.

Mrs. Olonisakin, President of DEPOWA, stressed that it is pertinent corporate organisations and Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) give necessary consideration to the plight of the widows and orphans of gallent Nigerian fallen heroes.

While calling on them to rise to the challenge of addressing the needs of families of the fallen heroes, the DEPOWA President, noted that the backbone of support to be provided by corporate organisations and NGOs will make a world of difference in the lives of the widows and children of departed officers and troops of the Armed Forces.

She disclosed that the initiation of the project is a testimony of how they intend to make life more worthy of living for families of the fallen heroes, who layed down their lives for the security, peace and unity of the country.

In a remark, Gen. Abayomi Olunisakin, CDS, explained that the CSR project was organized to let the widows and families of the fallen heroes know that they have not been forgotten.

He expressed belief that the distributed items will help cushion the hardship and alleviate the suffering of the widows and their children, while urging the beneficiaries to use the items judiciously.
