FOWMAN Seeks Traditonal Rulers’ Support On Family Health

A faith based non-governmental organization known as the Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN) has called for the support and cooperation of traditional rulers to catalyze policy attention towards effective Child and Family health in Nigeria.

Speaking at the event Hajiya Farida Sada Yusuf who is the program director of FOMWAN said, since traditional rulers are highly respected and chosen by their communities, thus they are the right people to lend their voices to the issues of Child and Family health, and to educate their subject so they can be aware of the health challenges facing the innocent and ignorant mothers at grass root levels. Also speaking during the event which was held in Abuja, Mrs Chinwe Onumonu, who represented another NGO; Partnership for Advocacy in Child and Family Health also said that federal government should invest in Child and Family Health in Nigeria to save the Lives of our Women and Children.

In what seem to be an immediate response to the appeal, His Royal Majesty, the Ona of Abaji Alhaji Adamu Baba Yunusa said the traditional rulers are making efforts to see that all their children are mentally and physically fit and he urged the federal government to make enough budget especially in the area of health care for women and children. The Ona of Abaji who also represented other council chiefs reiterated that “we cannot achieve positive result without having adequate health facilities in place.” He went further to advice the media to step up by enlightening the masses especially the grass root women in their local languages, through jingle, announcements, commercial and even short plays on local radio stations about health benefits.
