Gov. Ganduje Praises DFID For Its Contribution To The Progress Of Kano

kano-state-nigeriaGovernor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state has commended the DFID for its support towards actualizing the state Investment Promotion Agency, which aims to facilitate maximum exploitation of investment opportunities in the state.

He equally noted with satisfaction that the internal agency is working with his administration towards revolutionizing tax management, leading to the restructuring of the state Internal Revenue Service, for enhanced service delivery.

The governor made the assertion while receiving a delegation of Parliamentarians from the United Kingdom, explaining that with the support of DFID, the internally generated revenue of the state has witnessed a good leap in recent times.

“With the support of DFID, we were able to put in place the conditional cash grant scheme to poor families, which has enabled their female children to attend school”, the governor stated, lamenting that despite government’s efforts, girls in the state are lagging behind in respect of formal education.

Governor Ganduje told the team that the government is working out plans to build a youth development center in the state to help the teeming youths to become self reliant while discussions are on with some investors to provide alternative energy, which will propel small and medium scale businesses that will help in opening up job opportunities.

He however, mentioned that the state has a challenge in the area of community health, requesting the support of the international agency to support the government to address the issue of facilities manpower development in the sector.

In their separate remarks, Parliamentarians Pauline Latham and Jeffery Leroy said they came to Kano under a select committee on International development to assess the work of DFID in Nigeria, to ensure that the British government is getting value for its money.

They requested the government’s opinion on the work of the agency, pointing out that although the state government has shown commitment to serve the citizenry, more work needs to be done in the provision of social services.
