NYSC Members Must Undergo COVID-19 Test at Orientation Camp- NCDC
…. Staff, Corpers will remain in the Camp for 21 Days
The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has said that its officials deployed to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camps, will conduct COVID-19 test on corps members, staffs and vendors before participating in the activities of the orientation camp.

The test, according to the Director-General of the Centre, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, will, however, be free, as there will be no fee attached for corps members to pay.

Ihekweazu spoke in a remark at a media chat hosted by NYDC Director-General, Brig. Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, in Abuja.

According to the NCDC boss, any corps members infected with COVID will not be allowed to participate in the various camping activities.

While appealing for collaboration among key stakeholders, he urged the general public to trust the system, assuring that it would work to ensure corps members and staff at orientation camps, are safe.

Dr. Ihekweazu warned that foreign Nigerian graduates, who returned for their service programme and did not isolate themselves will not be allowed into orientation camps.

He said that though NCDC has no plan to set up large isolation centres in the orientation camps, there are contingency plans by their Centre to cater for any emergency situation, during the camping exercise.

Speaking on the same vein, the DG NYSC, Brig General told PRNigeria that any person screened to participate in the programme, would not go out until after the three-week orientation exercise.

General Shuaibu said: “We are into a new normal and everybody involved in the orientation camps activities, including members of the host communities that provide social-economic services must be screened and would not go out until after the orientation programme. We have scaled down the number of mammy market operators on the recommendations of NSCDC. Anybody that goes in after the screening would not go out with the intention of coming back until after 21 days…. Once you are in you won’t go out for health safety of the staff and corps members.”
