SAEMA 2022: How Military, Intelligence, Security Services Shone at 4th Security and Emergency Management Awards in Abuja
The Nigerian Army, the Defense Intelligence Agency, Nigeria Police Force, and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) were among the key security agencies that were honoured at the 4th Security and Emergency Management Awards (SAEMA) held in Abuja on November 23, 2022.
While the Intelligence and Safety Award went to the DIA, the NDLEA won the award for Crime Prevention.
Lieutenant Colonel Ishaya Aliyu Manga of the Nigerian Army won the award for Gallantry while ACP Daniel Amah of the Nigeria Police was honoured as Security Officer of the Year.
There were also a couple of winners cutting across public service and private sectors.
The award ceremony was organised by Image Merchants Promotion Limited (IMPR), publishers of PRNigeria, Economic Confidential, Spokespersons Digest, Politics Digest, Tech Digest and other publications.
The SAEMA recognizes outstanding gallantry, and contributions to safety, security and Emergency Management in Nigeria was hosted in collaboration with the Centre for Crisis Communication, CCC, Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre, CISLAC, the International Emergency Management Society, TIEMS, and The Media Today, TMT.
The Executive Secretary of Centre for Crisis Communication (CCC), Air Commodore Yusuf Anas (rtd) was the Chairman of SAEMA Jury Panel.
The chairman of the occasion was President Muhammadu Buhari’s spokesman, Femi Adesina, who also went home with the Distinguished Fellow Award.
Other dignitaries present were the President of Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Mukhtar Sirajo, who was the keynote speaker, Director of Defence Information, Maj Gen Jimmy Akpor, erstwhile Director of Defence Information and Chairman Forum of Spokespersons of Security and Response Agencies (FOSSRA), Maj Gen Chris Olukolade (rtd); former Army spokesman and currently a Director at Nigerian Army Resources Centre, Brig Gen SK Usman (rtd), Dr Sule Yau Sule, Chairman NIPR Membership Committee, and Alhaji Ismail Sani CEO Wonderland Television.

In August 2022, his sound professionalism and patriotism led to the arrest of an armed robbery syndicate which offered him a bribe of humungous sum of $200,000 to look away, which he ultimately rejected and never compromised.”

Also, in early September, he handed over to NAPTIP a 13-year-old girl (Temitope Marvellous) who was rescued from human traffickers while on their way to Sokoto aiming to cross border and reach Libya illegally.”

In September, the agency achieved its all-time record in a single operation by busting a major warehouse in Ikorodu estate, Lagos State where 1.8tons (1,855kgs) of cocaine worth over $278,250,000, equivalent of about N194.7billion was seized.”
