ICCESS Hosts Security Agencies, Political Parties over Forthcoming Elections in Sokoto

Assures the political parties of the vibrancy of the police in conjunction with INEC Legal teams to ruthlessly deals with violators of Electoral Act.

*Read Riot Act to them and advise them to checkmate their followers against violation of any part of Electoral Acts.*

1. The Inter Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCESS) in Sokoto State led by *CP Muhammed Usaini Gumel FIPMA, psc* had on Friday 06/01/2022 conveyed a critical stakeholders meetings with party chairmen and secretaries of all Political parties in the state for the second time. The aim of the meeting is to review the on going political campaigns activities characterized by intruders who are habitually wielding weapons, dishing vulgar statements on political opponents and the exhibition of hard drugs related violence in some parts of the state. The meeting also sensitized the campaigns organizers and offered to them chance to reflect and address the emerging concerns and also reminded them on their roles as political parties of checkmating mischievouss followers and to always verify what they say and publicize.

2.The decision to hold this meeting came after collective observations and decisions of ICCES in the state to collectively address the disturbing threads regarding the ongoing campaign activities. During the meeting collective decisions were taken as follows:

– All the leaders of the political parties agreed to assign committee that will be screening their supporters and ensuring that no body carry any weapon during their campaign.

-Presence of non state security actors, quasi security outfit and other non State actors stand prohibited as provided by the electoral act.

– The hallmark of the meeting was the signing of Oath of Commitment by the representatives of all the political parties in the state.
