The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has provided relief materials to support the rehabilitation of victims of communal crisis in Ekimbuk village, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. Lives and property were lost in the dispute over land in the community.

Presenting the items at the weekend, the Director General of NEMA, Muhammad Sani Sani, appealed to the warring communities to stop the incessant destruction of lives and properties by embracing peace for national development.

The Director General who was represented by Director of Relief and Rehabilitation, Mr. Eugene Ezeh, said the items delivered were based on recommendation by a joint assessment conducted by NEMA and Akwa Ibom State Government. He urged state government to ensure that the items got to the victims and they make effective use of them.

He also called on the state government to ensure that its State Emergency Management Agency was strengthened and given all the necessary support to strengthen disaster management in the state.

Receiving items on behalf of the Akwa Ibom State Government, the Deputy Governor, Obong Moses Ekpo, thanked the Federal Government for approving the relief items for the victims of the communal crisis. He said the communal crises have brought untold losses and tears to villages and communities in local government area in the state since 1956 and the state would no longer tolerate the act of lawlessness.

He said henceforth any land in dispute in the state would automatically become the state government property and be used for other developmental purposes.
