AGF Receives In Audience The President And Council Members Of ANAN

The Accountant General of the Federation Alhaji  Ahmed Idris FCNA has called on Professional Financial Associations like ANAN, ICAN , Cost Management Accountants of Nigeria and others to be at the vanguard of championing the anti-corruption campaign of the present administration, by enforcing compliance with the ethics and standards of their professional practice which are the cardinal principles of their operations.


Alhaji Idris made this call today, August 3, 2015 in Abuja whilst playing host to the National President  and Chairman of Council, of the Association of National Accountant of Nigeria (ANAN)  Mr. Anthony Nzom, FCNA, the Council members, past presidents of the Association, Executives and members of the FCT Chapter of the Association, who came on a courtesy visit to the Treasury House.


The Alhaji Ahmed Idris urged ANAN and other accounting professional bodies to do away with those vices and practices that promote corruption in the system, saying that standing against such will ensure a better economy for our nation.


He called for a review of the ways and manner public funds are managed and urged  Accountants in the public Sector to be more prudent, transparent, efficient and cost conscious in managing the resources at their disposal on behalf of the Nigerian people.

 Speaking further,  Alhaji Idris pledged to collaborate with ANAN and other professional bodies in enhancing the operations of the Treasury House and its capacity to deliver on her mandate, as well as the training of her Staff.  He emphasized that his administration is willing to partner with any organization with ideas on how the office can most effectively discharge her mandate, adding that he will provide a level playing ground for all such bodies to thrive.


 Earlier, the President and Chairman of Council ANAN, Mr. Anthony Nzom eulogized the sterling qualities of the Accountant General saying those qualities were instrumental to his appointment as the Accountant General of the Federation.


 According to him, Alhaji Idris’s appointment as the first ANAN member to be appointed to such as position is a recognition and endorsement of the Association as a premier Accounting body which has distinguished itself in the area of public financial management.


Mr. Nzom informed the Accountant General of their various contributions to  learning, research and development of the Accounting profession in Nigeria, which included building of Classroom blocks at different universities and the donation of text books among others. Mr Nzom equally reiterated that the ANAN is being run without liability to any bank and without waiting for government funding.


In a closing remark, the Director Funds, Mr. M.K. Dikwa, thanked the Members of ANAN for their visit and pledged the support of all the Directors and staff of the OAGF to the success of the Accountant General of the Federation.
